FAQs
Food Waste questions, answered.
The most common questions UK businesses ask about food waste. Need more detail? Talk to our team.
Is separate food waste collection mandatory?
Yes. Under Simpler Recycling, from 31 March 2025 most English businesses must separate food waste from general and dry recycling.
What food waste can I include?
All food — raw, cooked, plate scrapings, dairy, meat, bones, fruit and veg, bread and out-of-date stock — packaging removed.
What containers do you provide?
Sealed 23L kitchen caddies and 140L or 240L lockable external bins, all with compostable liners where requested.
Do food waste bins smell?
Sealed lids, frequent collections and a routine wash cycle keep odour and pests under control even in summer.
What happens to the food waste?
It goes to anaerobic digestion sites in the UK, generating biogas for renewable electricity and a digestate used as agricultural fertiliser.
Will food waste collection save me money?
Usually yes. Food waste is heavy — diverting it from general waste reduces tonnage charges and your overall disposal cost.
